The Rancho Fire: Tense Few Days
Experienced our first fire since moving to the Tehachapi Mountains. It’s the ever present threat these days in California, always lurking in the back of my mind. The Rancho Fire burned over 10,000 acres before containment and came within 2 miles of our house. Fortunately, there was very little wind…

High Elevation Camp Life
This is from a recent trip I took into new wilderness. Camp was 9300 feet above sea level amid massive granite outcrops, burbling creeks, and ancient mahogany trees. Only got to explore a small section of it - can’t wait to get back up there but it may have to…

Spacerock Trail Run | October 2023
This run is one of my favorites to photograph. The setting is Vasquez Rocks in Agua Dulce. Seriously can’t take a bad picture here to begin with. Add some bad ass runners (and hams for the camera!) and you got yourself a match made in heaven. Doesn’t get much better…

A Little Explore of the High Desert

petroglyph sites. For any concerned, these are transitory locations, not
habitation/village sites. There are no artifacts - nothing to loot or
pillage.…

Sugar Daddy Race 2022 | Santa Clarita, CA
Sugar Daddy is a 5k, 10k or half marathon road race in Santa Clarita. In the past I shot trail races pretty much exclusively but I’m digging the road races more and more. Head over to New Global Adventures if you’re interested in running it in 2023. Thanks for stopping…

Galen
We found the car first, a black Volkswagen sedan covered in dusty handprints. It was as though some prehistoric tribe had taken their art out of the caves and blessed this strange thing, this massive darkling beetle, with their totemic symbols.
A broken rake and beat up frying pan lay…

The Scream
Once when we were still living in Canada, my dad and I were hunting along the old channel of the Saskatchewan River. It had overflowed its banks decades earlier leaving this placid winding thoroughfare through the dense bush.
At night, we’d beach our canoe on the bank, fix dinner and…
